CMOE surveyed 327 employees about their supervisors (117) before these supervisors attended a Leadership Development Course. How does T-shirt Come into the Popular Culture?

The t-shirt is considered the classic, default piece of clothing, but its prevalence in popular fashion is actually quite recent. Not invented until the 1920s, it didn"t even become common until the 1960s. Today, of course, it is perhaps the most common item of clothing around the world. This is not exactly a story about math, but then, in a way it is. If you have a pail of water, and we call that water "Love", would not the amount of Love in that pail depend upon the volume, as indicated by how full it is? Of course it would, right? Now, let us say you meet some beautiful creature, male or female, and you fall head over heels in love with that person.How much love [Love] can you have for that person? And no, this is not a trick question.

Is it possible to have more love for a person that you have love for yourself? I suggest it is not possible. Just look at the pail. Half full is half full. So, you can argue against what I suggest, but to what purpose? Look at the pail. The pail cannot render any more Love than what is contained within it. But, you say, Love is different. Love comes from God, so it is limitless.... you say.

Is it, I ask? Can I pour a pail half full of water into a tea cup, or will that tea cup overflow? How about if I pour that pail into a bath tub, will that pail fill that bath tub? I know, I know... with God it is different. My point is not to argue against God or God"s endless Love... my point is to argue that neither you are, nor am I, God. So, yes God"s Love for us is limitless... however we are a pail turned upside down, and how then does God, even with endless Love fill our pail?

My further point is that one can only give what one possesses. And in the case of God"s Love to oneself, that is not ones own love, but is God"s Love to you. If you want to try and share God"s Love to you, then you are a fool. First of all it cannot be done. And second of all, if you try to give God"s Love away, the attempt will only diminish the Love you possess, but you will be utterly unable to give God"s Love to anyone else. Do you imagine for a moment they do not have a personal relationship with God?

Who do you think you are? What does the Bible say about throwing ones perls before swine? If you do not cherish God"s Love above all else on this physical plane... then you do not deserve it. And if you imagine God"s Love is to share with others, then you simply do not Know God.... or how Love works. Champion of Mining Competition Means Opportunity

Burly, bearded and beer-loving, Kris Strickland is not your average student-athlete. He doesn’t use a ball, a mitt, or a racket to show his skills. He uses a four-pound hammer.

Mr. Strickland, a Virginia Tech senior, was just one of scores of competitors who took part in the weekend’s 33rd International Intercollegiate Mining Competition, an annual tourney that combines the passion of college sports with the grit of hard core — and hard rock — mining. “It’s a rush,” said Mr. Strickland, 22, a mining and mineral engineering major whose specialty is handsteel, an event which involves driving a metal spike into a cube of concrete. “And it’s a lot more fun than sitting in a classroom.”

Equal parts history lesson and he-man contest, the competition involves eight events, each tied to a bygone era of prospecting. There’s the high-pressure action of gold-panning, a concentration-intense test that involves finding flattened BBs (standing in for gold) in a can of dirt. There’s the jackleg, where competitors use a six-foot-long hydraulic drill bit to see who can bore the deepest. And, of course, there’s the fearsome Swede saw, where whoever can saw through a six-by-six-inch timber the fastest — and the most accurately — is named the winner. All of which, say organizers, is both exciting for students — an engineering-heavy group who come from as far as st1:country-region w:st="on" Australia to compete — and not as easy as it looks.

"It’s like any athletic event: technique and form are key,” said Danny Taylor, chairman of the mining engineering department at the University of Nevada, Reno, which hosted this year’s games. “Your best golfers are not guys who hit the ball the hardest; they’re the ones who hit the ball hard with the right form. It’s the same thing with shoveling dirt or swinging that four-pound hammer.”

And while few original Gold Rush miners were women, the action in Reno was not limited to men. Take the fierce women’s team from the Missouri University of Science and Technology, who sport neon-green hard hats and are and are led by Catherine Walker, a former high school wrestler who sees the competition as a chance to strike a blow for equality. “I like doing the same activity as the boys do,” said Ms. Walker, 24 and a senior. “Most people would never see a woman jack-legging.” And they did it well, winning the women’s division.

Challenges in Commodity Markets and on Raw Materials

Euro mines welcomes the issuing of the new EU’s Communication on “Tackling the challenges in commodity markets and on raw materials”. In particular the sector welcomes the acknowledgement of the importance of raw materials for the growth of the European economy. “At the heart of current developments lies a series of changes in global supply and demand patters as well as short term shocks in key commodity and raw material markets. The years 2002 to 2008 were marked by a major surge in demand for raw materials, driven by strong economic growth, particularly in emerging countries such as China. This increase in demand will be reinforced by the further rapid industrialization and urbanization in countries such as China, India and Brazil. China is already the largest consumer of metals in the world – its share of copper consumption, for example, has risen from 12% to about 40% over the last 10 years. Prices movements have been exacerbated by various structural problems in the supply and distribution chains of different commodities.”

The extractive sector has been very supportive of the work conducted so far and welcomes the proposals made by the Commission in its Communication with regard to assessing future market demands in Europe and worldwide; improving the access from European resources through the proposed actions jointly with the Member States to increase the availability and supply of raw materials to Europe to secure the viability and growth of the European economy; assessing the criticality of raw materials and the need to review the list of these raw materials every 5 years; fostering research and innovation through creation of a European Innovation Partnership and supporting the research in the area of raw material exploration, processing and recovery and recycling.

The Europe 2020 Strategy underlines the need to promote technologies that increase investment in the EU’s natural assets. Extractive industries fall under this category, but its development is hindered by a heavy regulatory framework and competition with other land uses.

The Commission considers that the following practices are particularly important in promoting investments in extractive industries:

(1) defining a National Minerals Policy, to ensure that mineral resources are exploited in an economically viable way, harmonised with other national policies, based on sustainable development principles and including a commitment to provide an appropriate legal and information framework;

(2) setting up a land use planning policy for minerals that comprises a digital geological knowledge base, a transparent methodology for identifying mineral resources, long term estimates for regional and local demand and identifying and safeguarding mineral resources (taking into account other land uses); With its high quality products such as hammer crusher and ball mill, Hongxing Machinery has ascended in the front rank of the world in the exporting of mining equipment.

EU Forbids Use of Cyanide Processing Technogy

The resolution of the European Parliament calling for a general ban on the use of cyanide mineral processing technologies in the European Union has received the full attention of the European Commission. On June 23rd, 2010 the European Commissioner for the Environment – Mr. Potočnik – published the following statement on behalf of the Commission in response to a Parliamentary question on the issue.

"After an in depth analysis of the issue, the Commission considers that a general ban of cyanide in mining activities is not justified from environmental and health point of views. Existing legislation notably on the management of extractive waste (Directive 2006/21/EC) includes precise and strict requirements ensuring an appropriate safety level of the mining waste facilities. The limit values for cyanide storage as defined in the Directive are the most stringent possible and implies in practice a destruction step of cyanide used before its storage.

Due to the lack of better (in the sense of causing less impact on the environment) alternative technologies, a general ban on cyanide use would imply the closure of existing mines operating in safe conditions. This would be detrimental to employment without additional environmental and health added value. The Commission intends to continue to closely follow the possible technological developments in this sector in order to ensure that "best available techniques" are applied in practice as required by the Directive. In addition, the Commission considers that the priority should be set on ensuring full application of the Directive by the Member States. As guardian of the Treaty, the Commission intends to take all necessary measures within its remit to ensure that the Directive is fully and correctly applied in practice.”

The companies managing gold mining operations and projects in Europe, represented by Euromines – the European Association of Mining Industries, Metal Ores & Industrial Minerals – welcome this statement and further stress that EU regulation applicable to the presence of cyanide and cyanide compounds in mining waste is one of the most stringent legal regimes worldwide to safeguard human health and the environment. All mines are and will be complying to limit values far stricter than international standards due to the application of best available technology, e.g. presence of cyanide destruction units within their processes. The same EU legislation covers base metal mines that might use cyanide in their mineral processing plants. Therefore, there is no further environmental or health benefit to be achieved by additional regulation in the EU.

Mining operations have focused on minimising environmental effects in the short-, medium- and long-term. This means that sites are not only designed to have the minimum impact during operation, but also the closure and after-care of sites is planned from the out-set. Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), risk assessment evaluations, biodiversity action plans, integrated closure plans, monitoring and follow-up are just some of the strategic tools routinely applied by the industry to minimise environmental effects. Environmental audits are regularly conducted to review and constantly improve the environmental management, which has been demonstrated by many projects within the EU to be world-class. Calculation Method of Barrel Stress of Rotary Kiln

Generally speaking, there are three methods of calculating the bending stress on the barrel. The commonly used calculating methods for the bending stress of the barrel of the rotating kiln with more than three supporting point: "three bending moment equation method" and "torque distribution method". The result of the former method is very acturate, but with the increasing of supporting points, the calculating methods will become more and more complicated for this reason, errors are easy to occur in the calculating process. The latter is suitable for many supporting points and it does not need to solve simultaneous equations, the computation is very easy and convenient and the final result is relatively accurate.

(1) Check and verification of the bending stress of the barrel: we usually use the following formula to compute it:

In the above formula, б refers to the axial bending stress; M refers to the section bending moment and W refers to the section modulus.

(2) Check and verification of the axis deflections. Because the radial deformation can not be computed so far, people still use the axis Y as one of the control indexes of the design of barrel. When the cross or cantilever period of deflection is max, the span is 1, the deflection allowable value is (y), it should meet the following requirements: ymax/l[y] = 0.3 mm/m.

The development trend of computing method. So far, the allowable applicable stress of the rotary kiln is very low in the design. As for A3 steel, the safety factor will reach as high as 8 to 11 or even higher. However, this cannot show that the design is conservative because the following factors are taken into consideration:

(1) There will be some discrepancy allowed on the axis when the kiln is installed. However, in the operational process of the kiln, the supporting position of various kinds of gears will be slightly different from the ideal state which may cause huge additional bending moment and counter force to the barrel.

(2) Because the actual carrying capacity of the barrel is very complicated which will bring difficulty for the computation. In the operational process of the kiln, the barrel will sustain two stress composed by axial and ring force at the same time. In addition, because the temperature stress caused by the temperature difference of the radial direction and axial direction, the final result will be different from the actual condition.
